يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
يَارَبِّ يَـا عَـالِـمَ الحَـالْ
إِلَيْكَ وَجَّهْتُ الآمَـالْ
yārabbi yā ʿālimal ḥaāl
ilayka wajjahtul āmaāl
My Lord, Knower of all states,
to you I direct all hopes
فَامْنُنْ عَلَيْنَا بِالإِقْبَالْ
وَكُنْ لَنَا وَاصْلِحِ البَالْ
fam nun ʿalaynā bil iqbaāl
wakun lanā waṣ liḥil baāl
Bestow upon us your Divine attention,
be with us, and rectify the minds
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
ياَرَبِّ يَارَبَّ الأَرْبَابْ
عَبْدُكْ فَقِيرُكْ عَلَى البَابْ
īarabbi yārabbal arbāb
ʿabduk faqīruk ʿalal bāb
My Lord, O Lord of Lords!
Your slave and impoverished one is at the door
أَتَى وَقَدْ بَتَّ الأَسْبَابْ
مُسْتَدْرِكًا بَعْدَ مَا مَالْ
atā waqad battal asbāb
mustadrikan baʿda mā maāl
He has come having severed all other means
seeking to make amends after having strayed
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
يَا وَاسِعَ الجُـودِ جُـودَكْ
الخَيْرُ خَيْرُكْ وَعِنْـدَكْ
yā wāsiʿal jūdi jūdak
alkhayru khayruk waʿindak
O Expansive in generosity, (we seek) Your generosity
All good is Yours and possessed by You
فَـوْقَ الَّـذِي رَامَ عَبْدُكْ
فَادْرِكْ بِرَحْمَتِكْ فِي الحَالْ
fawqal ladhī rāma ʿabduk
fad rik biraḥmatik fīl ḥaāl
(that which is) beyond what Your slave could seek.
So, repair with Your mercy right now
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
يَا مُوجِدَ الخَلْـقِ طُـرّاً
وَمُوسِعَ الكُلِّ بِرّاً
yā mūjidal khalqi ṭurran
wamūsiʿal kulli birran
O Originator of all creation!
O Granter of all expansive kindness!
أَسْأَلُكَ إِسْبَالَ سَتْراً
عَلَى القَبَائِحْ وَالْاخْطَالْ
asaluka isbāla satran
ʿalal qabā’iḥ wal ākhṭaāl
I ask that You cast down a veil
upon all foul actions and foolishness
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
يَامَنْ يَرَى سِرَّ قَلْبِي
حَسْبِي اطِّلَاعُكَ حَسْبِي
yāman yarā sirra qalbī
ḥasbīṭ ṭilāʿuka ḥasbī
O One who sees the reality of my heart!
Your awareness truly suffices me
فَامْحُ بِعَفْوِكَ ذَنْبِي
واصْلِحْ قُصُودِي وَالأَعْمَالْ
fam ḥu biʿafwika dhanbī
ṣ liḥ quṣūdī wal aʿmaāl
So, erase with Your pardon my sin
and make right my intentions and deeds
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
رَبِّى عَلَيْكَ اعْتِمَادِي
كَمَا إِلَيْكَ اسْتِنَادِي
rabbiā ʿalaykaʿ timādī
kamā ilaykas tinādī
My Lord! Upon You is my reliance
as well as my dependence is in You
صِدْقاً وَأَقْصَـى مُرَادِي
رِضَاؤُكَ الدَّائِمُ الحَـالْ
ṣidqan wa aqṣā murādī
riḍāukad dā’imul ḥaāl
- in truthfulness, and my furthest aim
is Your eternal sweet pleasure.
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
يَا رَبِّ يَا رَبِّ إِنِّي
أَسْأَلُكَ العَفْوَ عَنِّي
yā rabbi yā rabbi innī
asalukal ʿafwa ʿannī
My Lord, My Lord! Indeed I
ask You to pardon me
وَلَمْ يَخِبْ فِيكَ ظَنِّي
يَا مَالِكَ الـمُلْكِ يَا وَالْ
walam yakhib fīka ẓannī
yā mālikal mulki yā wal
My opinion has never been at loss regarding You
O Owner of all dominion, O Guardian!
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
أَشْكُو إِلَيْكَ وَأَبْكِي
مِنْ شُؤْمِ ظُلْمِي وَإِفْكِي
ashkū ilayka wa abkī
min shu’mi ẓulmī wa ifkī
I complain to You, as I weep,
of the ills of my injustice and falsehood
وَسُوءِ فِعْلِي وَتَرْكِي
وَشَهْوَةِ القِيـلِ وَالقَـالْ
wasū’i fiʿlī watarkī
washahwatil qīli wal qaāl
and the evil of my deeds and my abandonment
and of my whimsical speech
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
وَحُبِّ دُنْيَا ذَمِيمَةْ
مِنْ كُلِّ خَيْرٍ عَقِيمَةْ
waḥubbi dunyā dhamīmah
min kulli khayrin ʿaqīmah
and (I complain) of love of this blameworthy world
that is barren of any goodness
فِيهَا البَلَايَا مُقِيمَةْ
وَحَشْوُهَا آفَاتْ وَاشْغَالْ
fīhal balāyā muqīmah
waḥashwuhā āfat wash ghaāl
In it all tribulations reside,
and it is filled with tribulations and preoccupation
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
يَا وَيْحَ نَفْسِي الغَوِيَّةْ
عَنِ السَّبِيلِ السَّوِيَّةْ
yā wayḥa nafsīl ghawiyyah
ʿanis sabīlis sawiyyah
O Woe to my soul that decieves
from the straight path;
أَضْحَتْ تُرَوِّجْ عَلَيَّهْ
وَقَصْدُهَا الجَاهُ وَالـمَالْ
aḍḥat turawwij ʿalayyah
waqaṣduhal jāhu wal maāl
it continuously urges me
and its aim is toward status and wealth
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
يَا رَبِّ قَدْ غَلَبَتْنِي
وَبِالأَمَانِي سَبَتْنِي
yā rabbi qad ghalabatnī
wabil amānī sabatnī
My Lord, it has overpowered me
and imprisoned me with false hopes
وَفِي الحُظُوظِ كَبَتْنِي
وَقَيَّدَتْنِي بِالأَكْبَـالْ
wafīl ḥuẓūẓi kabatnī
waqayyadatnī bil akbaāl
and in pleasures it has weakened me
and shackled me in fetters
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
قَدِ اسْتَعَنْتُكَ رَبِّي
عَلَى مُدَاوَاةِ قَلْبِي
qadis taʿantuka rabbī
ʿalā mudāwāti qalbī
I seek Your assistance, my Lord,
in the treatment of my heart
وَحَلِّ عُقْدَةِ كَرْبِي
فَانْظُرْ إِلَى الغَمِّ يَنْجَالْ
waḥalli ʿuqdati karbī
fan ẓur ilal ghammi yanjaāl
and the loosening of the knot of my afflication.
Look, then, at the sadness that circles.
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
يَا رَبِّ يَا خَيْرَ كَافِي
أَحْلِلْ عَلَيْنَـا العَوَافِي
yā rabbi yā khayra kāfī
aḥlil ʿalaynal ʿawāfī
My Lord, O Best of those who suffice!
Descend all ease upon us
فَلَيْسَ شَيْئْ ثَمَّ خَافِي
عَلَيْكَ تَفْصِيـلْ وَإِجْمَـالْ
falaysa shay’ thamma khāfī
ʿalayka tafṣīl wa ijmaāl
for there is nothing hidden
from You, small or large.
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
يَا رَبِّ عَبْدُكْ بِبَابِكْ
يَخْشَى أَلِيمَ عَذَابِكْ
yā rabbi ʿabduk bibābik
yakhshā alīma ʿadhābik
My Lord, Your slave is at Your door.
He fears the painfulness of Your torment
وَيَرْتَجِي لِثَوَابِكْ
وَغَيْثُ رَحْمَتِـكْ هَطَّالْ
wayartajī lithawābik
waghaythu raḥmatik haṭṭaāl
and hopes for Your reward
and the ever abundant downpour of Your mercy.
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
وَقَد أَتَاكَ بِـعُذْرِهْ
وَبِانْكِسَارِهْ وَفَقْرِهْ
waqad atāka biʿudhrih
wabiānkisārih wafaqrih
He has come to You with his excuses,
his brokeness, and poverty,
فَاهْزِم بِيُسْرِكَ عُسْرِهْ
بِمَحْضِ جُودِكَ وَالإِفْضَالْ
fah zim biyusrika ʿusrih
bimaḥḍi jūdika wal ifḍaāl
so defeat with ease from You his difficulty -
by Your sheer generosity and bounty.
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
وَامْنُنْ عَلَيْهِ بِتَوْبَةْ
تَغْسِلْهُ مِنْ كُلِّ حَوْبَةْ
wam nun ʿalayhi bitawbah
taghsilhu min kulli ḥawbah
Bless him to make such a repentance
that washes him of all sin.
وَاعْصِمْـهُ مِـنْ شَرِّ أَوْبَةْ
لِكُلِّ مَا عَنْـهُ قَدْ حَالْ
waʿ ṣimhu min sharri awbah
likulli mā ʿanhu qad ḥaāl
Protect him from the evil consequences
of all that has transpired from him.
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
فَأَنْتَ مَوْلَى الـمَوَالِي
الـمُنْفَرِدْ بِالكَمَالِ
fa anta mawlal mawālī
almunfarid bil kamāli
For You are the Master of all
the Unique in perfection.
وَبِالعُلَا وَالتَّعَالِي
عَلَوَْتَ عَنْ ضَرْبِ الأَمْثَالْ
wabil ʿulā wat taʿālī
ʿalawata ʿan ḍarbil amthaāl
In exaltation, and loftiness
You are beyond any stricken example.
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
جُودُكْ وَفَضْلُكْ وَبِرُّكْ
يُرْجَى وَبَطْشُكْ وَقَهْرُكْ
jūduk wafaḍluk wabirruk
yurjā wabaṭshuk waqahruk
Your generosity, Your bounty, and Your kindness
are hoped for; Your might and Your dominance
يُخْشَى وَذِكْرُكْ وِشُكْرَكْ
لَازِمْ وَحَمْدُكْ وَالِإجْلَالْ
yukhshā wadhikruk wishukrak
lāzim waḥamduk wāliājlaāl
are feared; Your remembrance and Your gratitude
are incumbent, as is Your praise and magnification.
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
يَا رَبِّ أَنْتَ نَصِيرِي
فَلَقِّنِي كُلَّ خَيْرِي
yā rabbi anta naṣīrī
falaqqinī kulla khayrī
My Lord, You are my helper.
Incite me all the good in me
وَاجْعَلْ جِنَانَكْ مَصِيرِي
وَاخْتِمْ بِالإِيْمَانِ الآجَالْ
waj ʿal jinānak maṣīrī
wakh tim bil iymānil ājaāl
and make Your gardens my final abode
and seal with faith the lifespans.
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
وَصَلِّ فِي كُلِّ حَالَةْ
عَلَى مُزِيلِ الضَّلَالَةْ
waṣalli fī kulli ḥālah
ʿalā muzīliḍ ḍalālah
Send blessings in every state
upon he who effaced misguidance,
مَنْ كَلَّمَتْهُ الغَزَالَةْ
مُحَمَّدِ الهَـادِيِ الـدَّالْ
man kallamathul ghazālah
muḥammadil hādiyid daāl
he to whom the gazelle spoke,
Muhammad, the guide, the leader
يَا عَالِمَ السِّرِّ مِنَّا
لَا تَهْتِكِ السِّتْرَ عَنَّا
yā ʿālimas sirri minnā
lā tahtikis sitra ʿannā
O Knower of our inner-states,
do not expose us
وَعَافِنَا وَاعْفُ عَنَّا
وَكُنْ لَنَا حَيْثُ كُنَّا
waʿāfinā waʿ fu ʿannā
wakun lanā ḥaythu kunnā
Grant us ease and pardon us
and be with us wherever we are
وَالحَمْدُ ِلِله شُكْرَا
عَلَى نِعَـمْ مِنْهُ تَـتْرَى
wal ḥamdu lillāh shukrā
ʿalā niʿam minhu tatrā
And all praise is due to Allah along with gratitude
for all His blessings that never cease.
نَحْمَدْهُ سِرًّا وَجَهْرَا
وَبِالغَدَايَا وَالآصَالْ
naḥmadhu sirran wajahrā
wabil ghadāyā wal āṣaāl
We praise Him privately and publicly
by morning and night.
