I drank with him the pure drink

and my life became good and pure.

I longed for his nearness

and connection, so he came quickly to my aid.

There is no state of mine

that alienates me like being shunned away.

All of those who rebuked me

for loving him have not been fair.

For the sake of Allah, he is a true friend

I pledged allegiance to him upon absolute loyalty.

Some have described him to me

and he is exactly as they described.

Being distant from him has caused me to become ill,

and only in unity is the cure.

If I showed bad etiquette

in relation to his right, he pardons me.

Through him, I have become wealthy; for he is my

affluence, my sufficiency, and he is enough.

O bolt of lighting,

that shimmers from his quarters -

you have made manifest my ecstasy

that laid dormant in my soul.

You reminded my of a pledge long past

and the purity of a life that has gone.

I was enveloped in envy

of its (life's) cloak that was donned.

Passed around between us

was a cup of love that is pure.

By it, our souls were pleased

and its (life's) worries all ceased.

O Lord, O Lord,

hasten to our aid by granting nearness to the Chosen One

Indeed, in love have

our souls greatly increased

So, bestow mercy, O God, upon our weak states

we truly are weak people

We cannot bear with patience

being away from our beloved, nor being shunned

So, alleviate, O God, our hardship

O Best of those who grant relief.

And bestow upon us the blessing

of meeting the Beloved, publicly and in private.

And send blessings, O my Lord, upon

the most exalted of creation in honor,

upon his family, his companions,

and all those who followed them.
